Last week we held an event on board Queen Victoria to celebrate raising £1million for The Prince’s Trust. The setting for the event was fitting, as it was six years ago, when HRH The Duchess of Cornwall, accompanied by HRH The Prince of Wales, named the ship and Cunard’s partnership with The Prince’s Trust began.
We were joined on board by actor Robert Powell, comedian Adrian Walsh and classical harmony group, Blake who all took to the stage in the Royal Court Theatre after a performance by the Royal Cunard Singers and Dancers.
Cunard CEO David Dingle then addressed our guests in the Queens Room, talking about some of the things we have done to raise £1million in six years, before we presented the cheque to The Prince’s Trust.
Over the last six years, we have been on a journey to raise as much money as possible for the great work of The Trust, to enable them to continue to turn around the lives of disadvantaged young people in the UK.
The Prince’s Trust provides practical and financial support to young people and helps them to develop key workplace skills such as confidence and motivation. Working with 14-30 year-olds who have struggled at school, have been in care, are long-term unemployed or have been in trouble with the law, The Prince’s Trust has turned lives around, and there have been some inspiring stories over the years.
Raising £1million for The Trust has been no small achievement for our staff in our head office in Southampton, our crew on board our three Queens, and our guests, with various fund-raising activities taking place both on board and ashore. On board we have auctioned off the nautical map at the end of each voyage, have received generous guest donations and raised money at special World Cruise dinners. Back in Southampton we’ve donated cruises to auction at high-profile Prince’s Trust events, organised a ‘Week for The Trust’ every year and participated in the yearly ‘Palace to Palace’ sponsored bike rides.
We’re proud that our shoreside staff, crew and guests have been able to raise such a remarkable amount for The Prince’s Trust.
